The Minister has published the Bill to scrub the existing Fisheries Boards and establish their replacement - Inland Fisheries Ireland. It is now expected that Inland Fisheries Ireland will take over in March 2010. A copy of the bill plus explanatory notes can be viewed by following links

John,
If I pay for my Shannon Region permit now will the new agency refund me in April? I see they have retained the same fee for 2010 (€39) despite the cutbacks!
The name may change but I suspect the same old traditions will remain.
Tight lines,

No, I am afraid no refund. However, you wont have to pay again and you will be able to fish these waters until the end of the year

They were designed around the trout season. I never had one but I am sure that they cover the year. I paid £20 in 1979 to become a life member of the Inland Fisheries Trust and that entitles me to fish on all these waters for as long as ............................................. well, hopefully, a long time

It looks like Inland Fisheries Ireland wont take over in April. It now looks like the Bill wont reach the Senate until the end of April so it will probably be the end of May or into June before the change takes place.

Those permits have been there for years. They will continue when I.F.I. takes over.
